Destination ImagiNation^® is the world's largest creative problem-solving organization with over 200,000 participants from schools and community-based organizations around the world.
Tidewater DI proud to be a part of the the only non-profit program in the Hampton Roads area designed to foster creative problem solving skills, teamwork, and divergent thinking with students from Kindergarten through college! Our region has been home to teams that have successfully represented the Commonwealth of Virginia by winning top honors against teams from across the United States and from many countries around the world!

The foundation of the Destination ImagiNation^® is the creative solutions that teams present for challenges designed to stretch their imagination. From structure building to vehicle design to performing arts, new Challenges are developed each year for with specific goals, budget limitations, judging criteria, and presentation time limits. While each Challenge focuses primarily on a specific goal, all Challenges include elements from different disciplines and are scored on creativity, teamwork, innovation and risk-taking...and must be solved completely by the students, without adult interference.

 

In addition to the presentation of the team solution, on Tournament Day, all teams must solve an Instant Challenge that will test the team's ability to think on their feet. The combination of the Challenge score and the Instant Challenge score will determine which team will advance to the next tier of competition for each Challenge and age/grade Level. The winner from each Level of the five Challenges will represent the Tidewater Region during the State DIVirginiA Tournament held at Virginia Commonwealth University on April 22nd, 2006.

From the State Tournament, the top Virginia teams go on Global Finals, the highest level of competition.
Held each year on large university campuses, the University of Tennessee will be the home of d2k.6, Global Finals 2006. The Tidewater region has proudly held the honor of sending extremely successful teams to represent the Commonwealth of Virginia during the international competition between award-winning problem solvers from around the world!

 

Much of the success and growth of Destination ImagiNation^® is due to the commitment of parents, teachers, and countless volunteers who contribute untold hours to the goals of the program.
Our dedicated team managers and program coordinators juggle schedules with unselfish dedication to be facilitators, mentors, and cheerleaders for the members of their teams. Tidewater DI, recognizes the dozens of officials whose commitment to the program requires attendance for a Saturday training session in addition to their actual tournament duties. With your support, the students in Tidewater have been able to benefit from this wonderful program for two decades!
