DI Virginia at a Glance

DIVA is the all-volunteer organization that brings Destination ImagiNation, the premiere creative problem solving program for students in Kindergarten through University, to all of Virginia!

Based on the concept of divergent thinking and understanding there is more than one way to solve a problem, Destination ImagiNationChallenges encourage students to build and their strengths and discover skills they never knew they possessed. Teams of up to seven students work for months solving the Challenges while learning teamwork, presentation skills and creative problem solving techniques.

Training sessions and workshops are held to teach adult team managers how to be facilitators, never coaching or leading the students, as their teams learn to solve the Challenges completely on their own without any outside "Interference." The culmination of the year is a regional tournament where all DI teams present their solutions before an audience to a panel of Appraisers who score the presentations on creativity, as well as execution of required elements.

DIVA holds tournaments in 7 active regions of the state for students to showcase their Challenge solutions. Teams based in inactive regions of the state can participate in Destination ImagiNation^® by contacting the Affiliate Director or the nearby Regional Director.

Each year, the winning teams from the regions advance to Virginia State Finals where teams present their solutions in hopes of advancing to Global Finals. State winners represent the Commonwealth of Virginia as Team DIVA at Global Finals, Destination ImagiNation's^® international competition for teams from around the world!
