The team’s presentation included an amazing statue of
Buddha. The team papier-mâchéd their own hands
and faces to form the statue’s hands and face. They
paid great attention to detail and seamlessly adjoined the
body parts. The Buddha came to life and was well integrated
into the team’s skit through original voice impersonations,
creating a believable character.

Mean Green Lean Cuisine Lettuce Machine Team
DI’ve Got a Secret Middle Level
This team’s enthusiasm was only trumped by the incredible
creativity shown throughout the their performance. The original
artwork which captured the effects of the electronic age on
our “shattered world” was not only creative, but
also beautifully explained by all the team members. This performance
was punctuated by a life-size statue made completely out of
recycled 2-liter bottles. Congratulations to the Mean Green
Lean Cuisine Lettuce Machine team from Kemps Landing Magnet
School on a job well done.

Obstacles, Of Course! Elementary Level
The paths we follow on our journeys around “life’s”
obstacles can be uncharted and unknown, until someone takes
a bold step in a new direction. Solving challenges takes imagination,
creativity and originality and taking big chances. We honor
teams who go boldly where few have traveled in the spirit
of adventure and risk-taking. We honor those who creatively
traveled to reach truly new and unique destinations. This
team devised a tube delivery system which shot a projectile
around the obstacle course. For their effort, bold risk-taking
and adventure spirit to do things differently, we award this
DaVinci Award to John B. Dey’s Obstacles Of Course team.

This team moved the appraisers with their set which was an
engineering marvel. Not only did one team member tower 10
feet above the audience in a tree, but when the revealing
set pieces came together to create a weight bearing swing,
it held a team member suspended above the floor. No cardboard
here! A job well done to the Great Neck Girls!

Team Valentine
Hit or Myth Elementary Level
The students on this team, ages 7-9, made their own Chinese
costumes using slipper, satin-like material, sewing machines
and hand sewing buttons on to shirts and a kimono. The students
helped each other when needed and learned how to cut patters,
pin material and sew the costumes correctly (including sleeve
holes and collars!)
In addition, the large wooden time machine proved too large
to fit through doorways, so they cut the structure in half
and hinged it. Amazing fore thought for a group so young.
